Our History

Greater Chattanooga Children’s Home, Inc. was founded by a group of concerned Christian individuals under the leadership of Dann Spann, who wanted to provide Christian homes for the temporary care of dependent and neglected children. The first group home was completed and opened in the Tiftonia community, and later houses were built in the Brainerd and Tyner communities. Additional childcare was provided in the Cleveland area for a five year period in a house provided by the Central congregation. A home was opened in the Ringgold, Georgia area in January of 2000.

Greater Chattanooga Christian Services, Inc. was chartered by the Board of Directors in 1968, when the need for additional social services was recognized. The necessary Child-Placing Licenses were obtained, and services were expanded to include foster care, adoption, maternity services and counseling.

GCCS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of members from area Churches of Christ. Our commission has always been that of serving and doing good unto all people, especially those of the household of faith. As Christian people we are called to serve our fellow man. The scriptures set forth our responsibilities (James 1:2; Galatians 6:10, Matthew 25:31, John 1:17-18).

The history of GCCS has been to meet basic urgent needs in the lives of hundreds of children and families. The commitment to be an agency of Christians ministering to the needs of other remains unchanged.

We also count on friends such as you, who care, pray, and financially support us, therefore empowering us to continue our Christian care for children and families.  If you would like to support our continuing services in this area, we welcome your donations.  Please go to our Donate page for more information about how you can help us in our mission.
